The Kaufman Arts District hosted its annual holiday tree lighting last Thursday in front of Kaufman Astoria Studios.

Children from the Jacob Riis Settlement After School Program at P.S. 166 decorated special ornaments that were hung on the tree. The kids involved ranged from kindergarten to fifth-grade students. The nearly 170 students attended the event where they saw the tree and received hot chocolate. This year was the third year of the partnership between the Jacob Riis Settlement After School Program at P.S. 166 and the Kaufman Arts District.

“You’ll be amazed at how many people live in New York City and have never seen the tree at Rockefeller Center, and an event like this is so exciting for the kids,” said Iftikhar Mahmud, program director for the afterschool program.
