If you’re walking down Queens Boulevard or Greenpoint Avenue in Sunnyside, chances are you’ll see some new signs.

The Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District (BID) announced last Friday that it had installed light pole banners along the neighborhood’s commercial corridors.

The organization said the initiative is part of its efforts to promote and maintain a “welcoming, friendly and dynamic commercial district and neighborhood.”

In total, 61 light pole banners were installed and sponsored by 18 local companies, such as Bliss 46 Bistro, Nelson’s Barber Shop and Sunnyside Ballet Studio. They will be up for one year.

“The new banners are a beautiful enhancement to the Sunnyside streetscape and a celebration of our strong, unified identity as a neighborhood,” said new executive director Jaime-Faye Bean. “We are deeply grateful to the program’s merchant sponsors, who bring such vitality and dedication to our business community.”

Diana Mets-Hagopian, owner of Platinum Pharmacy, said she’s happy to support local businesses and advocate for the neighborhood.

“Sunnyside is my home,” Mets-Hagopian said. “I love to see it prosper and grow.”
