Dear Editor,

The recent statement by Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina that cursive is going to be reintroduced into public school classrooms is indeed very positive, but why were these necessary and relevant skills removed from the classroom to begin with?

Everyone is so hyped up on having students have high-tech computer skills that cursive writing was pushed aside. It is so critical that students be able to write cursive. Computers cannot teach cursive, only skilled and competent educators can, and there are many of these fine pedagogues in our public school classrooms.

Sincerely,

John Amato
