Donna Furey, a local attorney and president of the Astoria/Long Island City Kiwanis meeting, is chair of the committee that is organizing the reunion. She said without volunteers, it won't happen.
“I have a lot of ideas about how we can run this but until I get some volunteers and see what they're interested in,” Furey said. “This cannot happen without volunteers.”
Help is needed to organize the food, entertainment, drink, planning and invitations, among other aspects of the event.
Furey also has an idea to have a journal, in which alumni can advertise for their businesses. Proceeds from the ads, along with from the event as a whole, will be donated to Most Precious Blood.
The money is currently earmarked for computers for the school, as the students don't have access to any.
“I need people to help inspire others to get involved and at least get people to come to the event,” Furey added.
There will be a volunteer meeting on Saturday, May 12th at 2 p.m. inside the school, at 32-52 37th Street in Long Island City. To RSVP, call 347-448-2549 or e-mail Mpb55reunion@gmail.
