The charming interior of Sidetracks along Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside was lit up last week for the United Forties Civic Association Holiday Party. Nearly 60 people were in attendance for the delicious holiday fare.

There were dozens of raffle prizes and 50/50 drawings for the adults. For the kids, members of the Civic Association and local officials like Assemblyman Brian Barnwell brought approximately 130 toys to be donated to the needy children of the neighborhood.

“United Forties is a group with the focus to help people in the community,” said civic president Donal McCallian. “United Forties has a policy, if you have toys, socks, or clothes, especially kid's clothes that are new or gently used, we will accept them throughout the year, particularly at our meetings.

“We accept donations 24 hours a day all year long,” he added. “We will bring the donations to the proper place.”

The 108th Precinct, whose police officers regularly attend and speak at the United Forties Meetings, offered a reminder of the Neighborhood Watch System.

“Remember, if you see something, say something,” said McCallian. “Report what you hear and see. We can help, or guide people in the right direction. This is a very successful program. We are very fortunate to have these individuals working for us.”
