Dear Editor,

After four very long and difficult years as chancellor of the city's public school system, Carmen Farina has decided to step down from her position.

During her tenure, she worked hard to make major improvements throughout the entire school system, despite continuous problems that plagued the schools. Her push to get the pre-K system up and running has had many positive results.

She dedicated nearly 50 years to the education system of our city, and is to be commended for her hard work, professionalism, and diligence. The only fly in the ointment was, and continues to be, Mayor Bill de Blasio.

He should have given Chancellor Farina more authority to do her job. He knows absolutely little to nothing on how to run a school system, and should not be allowed to have continued control of our public schools.

The chancellor and his or her assistants should have complete autonomy to run the school system, and the mayor should worry about running the city.

Good luck to Carmen Farina, may you have many wonderful years of continued retirement and good health ahead of you. Thank you for all that you did in the field of public education.

Sincerely,

John Amato
