Children and adults were encouraged to show up dressed as their favorite character or don their favorite house colors. Activities included finding out a Patronus for everyone using a special hat as well as a race to find the hidden Snitch in the store.
Pink Lily Bakeshop, located at 81-50 Lefferts Blvd. in Kew Gardens, provided Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin cupcakes to accompany a lot of butterbeer.
To conclude the event, the store owners provided popcorn and butterbeer as well as screened the movie that started it all: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
“Harry Potter started the love of reading for many of us,” said Vina Castillo, co-owner of Kew & Willow. “I thought it only fitting that we celebrate not only his and J. K. Rowling’s birthdays but also the 20th anniversary of the publication of ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone!’
“We were blown away by the turnout and excited to see everyone dressed as their favorite character and House colors,” Castillo added. “We ended the celebration with the showing of the first film to much enthusiasm.”
