I had a good laugh reading the letter from Marie Gangemi in the December 20th issue in response to a dispatcher from Howard Beach and his comments about how the new Amazon headquarters will be a community, economic and employment benefit for both Long Island City and The Big Apple.
How ironic that on the very next page was an editorial by Seth Bornstein, executive director of the Queens Economic Development Corporation, about the benefits of the Amazon decision.
He explained in professional terms the gains the new headquarters will bring to the area, backing it up with facts and statistics. A far cry from Ms. Gangemi's ad hominem statements.
As far as hate crimes, nearly every week we hear of new ones somewhere in the metropolitan area committed by individuals and groups of all backgrounds.
To identify Howard Beach for the acts of a few many years ago is unfair, for as horrendous as these crimes are, they occur practically everywhere.
