Virus deniers

Dear Editor,

By denying the importance of masks and social distancing in the fight against the coronavirus, Republicans have succeeded in exposing and infecting a wide range of people, including President Donald Trump himself and his closest allies.

It must be pointed out once again that we have only 4.5 percent of the world's populations, but 20 percent of the cases and deaths.

According to Robert Redfield, director of the Center for Disease Control, masks are the most powerful tool we have, and the virus could be defeated if everyone wore a mask.

In a recent interview, Dr. Anthony Fauci said that COVID-19 particles linger in the air, so the virus is more easily transmitted in enclosed spaces than outdoors. As a result, indoor aerosol transmission is a problem in restaurants because people must remove their masks to eat.

Overall, most New Yorkers have done a good job of lowering transmission. Let's keep up the good work and do whatever is necessary to prevent a resurgence. While I sympathize with restaurant owners and workers, I will not be eating inside a restaurant anytime soon.

Why take a risk when we can have food delivered, take food out or eat outside, weather permitting. We should stop complaining when New York's elected officials do what is necessary to protect us, while the Trump administration constantly lies and doesn't care if the virus infects us.

Sincerely,

Linda Imhauser
