South Ozone Park’s Nicole Thomas recently released her first fantasy book, "Tales of Ehlaanai," a story of faith, love, and magic.

This book follows the main character, Alric, and many others as they discover and learn how their choices will impact the land of Elhaanai.

“It shows how faith in yourself, others, and your destiny will shape your experiences,” Thomas said. “How we all have the propensity for great evil or great good, and daily we must choose which side will win.”

Thomas said faith played a role in her writing.

“Inspiration comes from God and I believe he gave the ability to write, so I will try to use it to spread the message of hope and faith to anyone willing to hear it,” she said.

Thomas tries to incorporate as much of her faith as she can without sounding “preachy,” so throughout the book she included underlying messages.

“For example ‘be strong and courageous’ in book one is taken from the book of Joshua 1:9, things like that,” Thomas explained. “The entire experience has taught me so much about myself and being dedicated to the process.”

She said her favorite parts of the book are the beginning and end.

“The beginning because I heard the words so clearly in my head when I began writing it, and the ending because I think it is such an awesome gasp moment.”

She started writing poetry as a teenager and her small collection of poems, "Facets of a Poetic Soul," is available for purchase online. But "Tales of Ehlaanai" doesn’t end here, Thomas said that there are two more books to come. The second book will be released in January 2021.

“Book two does get a bit darker, but that is life,” she said. “The dawn only comes after darkness.”
