Queensboro FC II picked up yet another win over the weekend, making it six straight victories. The win brings them to nine on the season, and they show no signs of slowing down with three matches left to play.
After two trips upstate, QBFC returned to finish their regular season schedule at Deborah and John Danzi Stadium at St. Joseph’s College on Long Island.
Their opponents would be 3rd place Ironbound SC, the only other club within reach of QBFC and the only one to beat them this year, winning 3-1 in the 2nd match of the year.
In the first half, a physical battle got underway, with QBFC threatening the Ironbound net a few times.
In the 7th minute, Mario Salguero opened the scoring with his first goal of the year, giving Queensboro FC a 1-0 lead before halftime.
Queensboro FC scored seven minutes into the second half as well, with Joel Favard also getting his first of the year.
On defense, QBFC was immaculate, with goalkeeper Pol Rodriguez not needing to make a save as they recorded a second straight shutout.
AC Connecticut still holds a slim lead in the Northeast Division, but Queensboro’s phenomenal August and September have trimmed their lead to just three points. With their season already finished, ACC holds a record of 10-3-1 with a +28 goal difference.
With one more win and four more goals, Queensboro FC can crown themselves division champions this weekend, sitting at 9-1-1 with a +24 goal difference, also winning both matches against ACC this season.
